When the groom was asked if he was nervous before the wedding, he responded "Seriously, I get shot at for a living." Followed up with, "yeah, a little"

Oh yes, there was a wedding...
My son and daughter (the "best man") with the groom before the wedding. There was about 5 weeks to prepare for the big event. And it was beautiful.

just a little busy...
Such is par for the course around here. What can I say. Currently, I am preparing for my oldest nephew to be home on leave for two weeks from the Marines, starting this weekend. The house is in a bit of turmoil, since his brother just left for boot camp a few weeks ago (also Marines), and we've been shifting the rooms around again to better accommodate the remaining members of the household here. Translation, now that my youngest son is no longer sharing a room, we've put him in the smaller bedroom so DD and her fiancee can have the larger space while we're here. We're selling the house we're in and looking for a rental to carry us through my son's senior year in H.S., after that - we are seriously considering leaving the state - this particular city for sure.
Long story short, it's always been said that while they are my sister's sons, thems my boys. My sister is currently in a recovery program, and therefore does not have a home for them to return to. It's not something I wish to go into a great deal about. Mostly because I see it as her personal story. While I've had my role in it, and it has certainly had an impact on my family and our lives. Our Mother says I'm the Matriarch of the family - she claims it's a compliment, I think it's her way of saying I'm Bossy beyond belief...Esp. after my closing comment to my brother on his way to work this morning - where I told him "I'm only going to be on you about it until you do what you've got to do, so when you're good and tired of it - you'll make your move..." He has to renew his certification for his job, which expires on his birthday next month. My husband is in the same field, so I'm not as easy to placate as his GF on the subject. He was supposed to take the class in May, early June at the latest to ensure his new card would arrive before his birthday.
Damn it - in my defense, I am the oldest. I was raised raising them ;)
I just don't think any one ever thought it'd take quite this long...
Oh, and there's activity on the more personal front of my life too. A new sewing project in the works (a top for my sister from the leftover fabric from my dress), Dh and I went out to dinner and shopping with DD and her Beau last Sat. We did a little shopping, and I picked up a really cute pair of shoes, that perfectly match that dress (tired of it yet?). Plus, hubby is working local for the next two weeks, which is a treat for us all. O.k, mostly me - but still. I baked some banana muffins yesterday - normally I'd post a picture, but they're gone. It just doesn't take long around here. Summer vacation, DS has friends over pretty much all day - every day (ahhh, the smell of teenaged boys in the Summer permeating my living room, I think forever, UGH) Which reminds me, I need more tarts for my diffuser ;) Sunday, I went to lunch with my sister and a friend. Got S.S's (Sweet Sister) hair cut, and hit the book store, more on that later.
I have coupons to clip, sales to match, and menus to plan for the next two weeks.
Well, if all this is to get any further than this post, I'd best be getting to it. I shall return, with pictures and anecdotes, no doubt. My nephew is planning to get married while he's home this time, but I'm not supposed to know about it yet - so I'll wait to get on that subject.....busy, busy, busy - like I said;)

Learning to sew - again/still?
I've started sewing again. While I've been sewing for just over 18 years now, it hasn't been with any regularity that has allowed me to expand beyond the skills of (very) basic home and craft sewing. Binge sewing for holidays and events, getting frustrated and burned out to where I pack the machine back up, vowing not to wait so long to pull it out again. Sounds good - each and every time.
This year, I'm following through with it though. In fact, I just finished a dress for myself yesterday. It's McCall's 6559. I had read a few reviews about it on other blogs and thought "Even I can sew two pieces of fabric together!" I'm happy to say - it was not an over confident thought.
I even wore it out today to the H.S Graduation of a friends daughter, with my hair and make-up done of course ;) In the photo above I had just thrown it on for the picture - it was just too hot to even think about doing my hair and make-up. I have a horrible body image of myself; another post maybe, so it wouldn't have made me "like" the picture any better any way. I was just excited I had finished the project.
At the end of the ceremony, we were gathered around my friends daughter and some of her friends and families, when one woman said to me "Oh wow, I really like that dress. I would totally rock that." I just accepted the compliment with a simple smile and a "thank you." To which she followed up with "No really, if you don't mind - where did you get it? I'd really go buy that!" So, I told her I made it and she responded with "Oh you make clothes, we need to shop for some fabric!" Of course, I am in no way ready to sew for others, I'm hardly comfortable sewing for myself and my family just yet. I don't even own a serger - which is o.k, because I'm still learning how to use my sewing machine.
Still, it was an encouraging experience for me.
